pal_743x190

Organisation: Dr. Rocio Daga-Portillo, Prof. Loren Stuckenbruck, Prof. Robert Yelle

The block seminar will address both canonical texts (e.g., the Bible and Qur'an) and historical, philosophical, and theological aspects of this dynamic. The program will involve a four-day visit to Granada, including classroom discussions (in English) led by instructors from LMU and the University of Granada and site visits to the Alhambra and (probably) the Jewish museum in Cordoba. There will also be a follow-up meeting in Munich during the regular semester. This will be a truly interdisciplinary and international course offering, with students from other LMU faculties as well as from the University of Granada. What makes it special also is the location, the heart of Andalusia, which was formerly a place of encounter of Muslims, Christians, and Jews.

The block seminar will be offered in the following MA modules in WiSe 2022/23:

  • P 2.1 Religions- und Ideengeschichte I (Seminar)
  • P 5.0.1 Religions- und Ideengeschichte II (Seminar)
  • P 8.0.1 Religions- und Ideengeschichte III (Seminar)
  • WP 2.0.1 Religions- und Ideengeschichtliche Vertiefung 1 (Seminar)
  • WP 4.0.1 Religions- und Ideengeschichtliche Vertiefung 2 (Seminar)
  • WP 6.0.1 Religions- und Ideengeschichtliche Vertiefung 3 (Seminar)

It will be also offered in the following BA module in WiSe 2022/23:

  • P 6.0.6 Beispiele aus dem Bereich Handlungen - Medien - Kunst

Participating students will have to be enrolled in WiSe 2022/23 and are expected to prepare the readings, give a presentation (Referat), participate in discussions, and write a paper according to the requirement of the respective module (MA students: Hausarbeit; BA students Essay or Hausarbeit).

Accommodation at the University of Granada, including meals, has already been arranged, as has the reservation at the Alhambra. The estimated overall costs are around 500 € per person including travel tickets, although due to fluctuations in travel fares it could be more. Depending on the number of participants, at least half of the cost of accommodation and travel will be reimbursed for enrolled students of religious studies. To be eligible for reimbursement, students will need to register for the course and to be currently matriculated, i.e. not to have completed their degrees already before WiSe 2022/23. For the visit to the Alhambra, the participants’ country of citizenship, passport or national identification card number and expiration date has to be submitted already in June. Therefore a confirmation of acceptance will be regarded as binding (verbindlich).
